Hospital Directory — Malaysia

Major public and private hospitals across all Malaysian states with emergency department contact numbers. In a medical emergency, call 999 for ambulance dispatch — MERS will route you to the nearest appropriate facility.

Emergency? Call 999 immediately. Do not use this directory to self-select a distant hospital during an acute emergency — MERS 999 will dispatch an ambulance to the nearest facility with appropriate capability. For non-emergency health hotlines and disease reporting, see our emergency contacts page.

Hospital vs Clinic: When to Go Where

Go to a hospital emergency department for: suspected dengue with warning signs (persistent vomiting, abdominal pain, bleeding — see our dengue guide for the full list), suspected leptospirosis (fever with severe muscle pain after water contact — see our water safety guide), HFMD with neurological signs in children (see our childcare guide), any symptoms requiring isolation assessment (suspected high-consequence infectious disease after international travel — see our global threats page), severe food poisoning with dehydration (see our food safety guide), and any life-threatening emergency including difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, or severe allergic reaction.

Visit a Klinik Kesihatan (government health clinic) for: routine vaccination (see our vaccination guide), suspected uncomplicated dengue (fever during outbreak season — they will do a blood count and refer to hospital if needed), TB screening (persistent cough for more than 2 weeks), routine health screening, and non-emergency infectious disease enquiries.

Visit a private GP clinic for: mild illness not requiring emergency care, follow-up appointments, medical certificates for workplace absence during illness (see our workplace guide for sick leave entitlements), and travel health consultations if university hospital travel clinics are not accessible.

What to Bring to the Emergency Department

When going to a hospital emergency department for a suspected infectious disease, bring: your IC (MyKad) or passport, any previous medical records or blood test results (particularly relevant for dengue follow-up where serial platelet counts are critical), a complete list of all medications the patient is currently taking (especially important for elderly patients on anticoagulants or NSAIDs), your MySejahtera vaccination record or physical vaccination card, and details of any recent travel, water exposure, or contact with sick individuals. These details save critical time during triage and assessment.

Ambulance dispatch: When you call 999, the MERS (Malaysian Emergency Response System) operator will determine the nearest appropriate facility based on your location and the nature of the emergency. You do not need to specify which hospital — the system is designed to route you to the optimal facility. For suspected infectious disease emergencies where isolation may be needed, MERS can coordinate with Hospital Sungai Buloh (the national infectious disease referral centre) or the nearest hospital with isolation capability.
