PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia reported 3,309 more Covid-19 infections on Tuesday (Jan 12), a new daily record for the country.
Prior to this, the most number of cases in a day was 3,027, which was recorded on Jan 7.
Four people also died due to the coronavirus, raising Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll to 559.
The country also discharged 1,469 Covid-19 patients, which means 110,584 people have recovered.
The number of people with active Covid-19 infections in Malaysia has gone up to 30,390.
Currently, 190 patients are in intensive care, with 83 requiring ventilator support.
Six of Tuesday’s cases were imported infections, while the rest are local transmissions.
Selangor recorded the highest increase of the day out of all states with 1,007 new cases.
This is followed by Johor with 442 cases, Sabah with 409 and Kuala Lumpur with 326 cases.
The number of cases reported in the remaining states are as follows: Penang (317 cases), Perak (241), Sarawak (146), Pahang (96), Kelantan (86), Negri Sembilan (85), Kedah (62), Putrajaya (36), Melaka (21), Terengganu (20), and Labuan (15).
Perlis recorded zero cases.
